Don’t Put Your Vision at Risk

Our eyes are an extremely valued and delicate organ. When something happens to our eyes, it’s important to act fast and protect them at all costs.

If you are having an eye emergency, contact Infinite Eyecare at (403) 425-0003, call 911, or immediately go to your nearest emergency room.

Common Eye Emergencies

An eye emergency is any situation that may compromise your vision or eye health. This can include:

  • Chemical burns
  • Blunt trauma
  • Sudden vision loss
  • Serious eye infection or excess of fluid discharge
  • Punctured eyeball
  • Bleeding from eye
  • Unexplained pain
  • Extreme flashes and floaters

When in doubt, seek immediate medical attention.

What to Do in an Emergency

Eye Wash

If you find yourself with a chemical burn or foreign body in your eye, you should try flushing your eye to remove it.

Using either cool, clean water or saline solution, pour into your eye. Even if your eyes start to feel better, continue this for at least 15 minutes. Depending on the outcome, you may still want to contact our office or proceed to your nearest emergency room.

What Not to do in an Emergency

DO NOT:

  • Attempt to remove a foreign object from your eye using your fingers, tweezers, or a similar object.
  • Vigorously rub your eyes
  • Bandage the eye if something is lodged in it. This could push the object further into the eye, causing even more damage.
