Protect Your Distance Vision

Myopia, more commonly known as near-sightedness, is a condition in which the eyes can see close objects, but distant objects appear blurry and out of focus.

According to the Canadian Association of Optometrists, myopia is the most common type of refractive error, affecting 30% of the Canadian population. And the global prevalence of myopia is expected to increase from 27% in 2010 to 52% of the world’s population by 2050.

If you’re having problems seeing distant objects clearly, book an appointment with Infinite Eyecare today.

What Causes Myopia?

Myopia is the most common refractive error aside from astigmatism and presbyopia. It affects distance vision and occurs when the eyeball is abnormally elongated, or the front surface of the eyeball is too steep. So when light enters the eye, it doesn’t focus directly on the retina but in front of it. The result is blurry distance vision that must be corrected with prescription glasses, contact lenses, or laser eye surgery.

Controlling Myopia

Myopia is a progressive condition that typically begins in childhood and peaks in young adulthood. The only way to completely eliminate myopia is through laser eye surgery.

At Infinite Eyecare, myopia is controlled in the form of prescription eyeglasses and contact lenses. Myopia can also be corrected using laser eye surgery, and our consultations will determine whether you are a good candidate for this procedure.

Speak to your optometrist about our myopia control options during your next appointment.
